Kill Screen

Out now

Every game has a final level.

Six hundred thousand people play Blackfell, a beloved game of pit wheels, brass bands and a valley where the work has gone. It's made by Pitwheel Games in an old flour warehouse on the Ouseburn, where the screens never switch off. In 2022, a paid panel of players with epilepsy told the world the game was safe.

Now those players are dying in the night, one by one, with Blackfell still playing to an empty room. Every death looks like SUDEP, sudden unexpected death in epilepsy, and nobody sees a pattern. Back in Consett, caring for her father, DI Kit Brannigan does. She's the only one asking who is still playing.

Someone has built the final level. Kit has to find them before the next player reaches it.
